Who we are & what this covers

This website, givara.energy, is operated by Givara Energy Private Limited(“GIVARA”, “we”, “us”, “our”). We are building GIVARA ONE, a rooftop wind turbine that comes to you as a service — installed, owned, insured and maintained by us, so you pay only for the clean electricity it generates.

This policy applies to personal data we collect through this website and the ways you reach out to us from it — for example, registering your interest, applying to our partner programme, or contacting us over WhatsApp or email. It also explains the information we will collect if you go on to become a customer. It does not cover third-party websites or apps we may link to, which have their own privacy policies.

We handle your data in line with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act)and, where applicable, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its SPDI Rules, 2011.

GIVARA is preparing for its consumer launch. Some practices described here — such as turbine performance data and billing — apply only once you have a GIVARA ONE installed. We have set them out now so nothing about how we treat your data is a surprise later.

The information we collect

We keep the data we collect to what we genuinely need. Depending on how you interact with us, this includes:

Information you give us

  • When you register your interest: your name, WhatsApp number, city or locality, PIN code, the type of site or property, and, optionally, how you intend to use GIVARA ONE.
  • When you apply to the partner programme: your name, phone number, city or district, the partner track you are interested in, and a one-line background about you.
  • When you contact us: your name, contact details, and anything you choose to tell us in your message, email or WhatsApp conversation.

Information we collect if you pre-book and we assess your site

If you reserve a spot and we arrange a technician visit, we collect details needed to judge whether your rooftop is suitable — such as building and roof characteristics, height, surroundings and obstructions, access, ownership or authorisation status, and your electricity-consumption profile.

Information we collect once GIVARA ONE is installed

After installation, the turbine and our service layer, GIVARA CARE, generate operational data such as energy generated, performance and health readings, and meter data, along with the billing information needed to run your pay-per-unit service.

Information collected automatically

When you browse the site, our privacy-conscious analytics collect limited technical and usage information — such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived from your IP address, not stored as a precise address), device and browser type, and referring links. This is described in Cookies, analytics & consent.

How we collect it

We collect information in three ways:

  • Through WhatsApp, when you choose to send us a message. This is important to understand: the forms on this website do not send your details to a GIVARA server. When you complete the “Register Interest” or partner form, your entries are placed into a ready-made message that opens in WhatsApp. Your information reaches us only if you then choose to send that message to us. WhatsApp is operated by Meta and is governed by Meta’s own privacy policy.
  • Directly from you, when you email us, message us, speak with our team, or during a site assessment.
  • Automatically, through the website analytics described below, subject to your consent.

Cookies, analytics & consent

We use a deliberately light approach to measurement. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build advertising profiles of you.

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — no cookies. We use Cloudflare to understand aggregate traffic (visits, popular pages, broad geography). It is cookieless, does not track you across other websites, and does not identify you. Because it stores nothing on your device, it runs by default.
  • PostHog — only after you agree. To understand how the site is used (for example, which sections people read), we use PostHog product analytics. It sets a first-party identifier in your browser (a cookie plus local storage) so a returning visitor is recognised without being personally identified. Autocapture and session recording are switched off, and we do not send your name, number or other personal details to it. PostHog is loaded only if you accept analytics cookies on our cookie banner. If you decline — or simply do not accept — it is not loaded and no analytics cookie is set.
  • A necessary preference. We store your cookie choice itself in your browser’s local storage so we can respect it on future visits. This is essential to the banner working and is not used to track you.

Changing your mind: you can withdraw or change your consent at any time by clearing your site data for givara.energy in your browser, which removes your saved choice and any analytics identifier and brings the banner back. You can also block cookies through your browser settings.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • respond to your enquiry and keep you updated about GIVARA ONE and your registration;
  • assess whether your rooftop is suitable and plan a site visit;
  • process your reservation, and — if you become a customer — deliver, service and bill your Wind Energy-as-a-Service subscription;
  • review and administer partner-programme applications;
  • operate, maintain, secure and improve this website and our product;
  • prevent fraud and misuse and keep our services safe; and
  • comply with the law and enforce our terms.

We rely on your consent, on the need to take steps at your request and to provide a service you have asked for, on our legitimate interest in running and improving GIVARA, and on legal obligations — as applicable under the DPDP Act.

When we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these limited situations:

  • WhatsApp (Meta): because our primary contact channel is WhatsApp, the messages you send us pass through Meta’s platform under its own privacy terms.
  • Service providers who help us operate — for example website hosting, analytics, and communication tools, and, once you are a customer, metering, payment and field-service partners. They may process your data only on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal and safety reasons — where we are required to share information by law, regulation, or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of GIVARA, our customers, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if GIVARA is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or transfer of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Where your information is stored

We intend for operational and customer data to be hosted in India. Some of our service providers (such as our analytics tools) may process limited data on servers outside India; where they do, we take reasonable steps so your data continues to be protected consistently with this policy and applicable law.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, or for as long as the law requires. In practice, enquiry and registration details are kept while your interest is active and for a reasonable period afterwards; customer and service data is kept for the duration of your service and any period we are legally required to retain records. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information — including access controls, encryption of data in transit, and limiting who can see your details to those who need to. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly if something goes wrong.

Your rights & choices

Subject to the DPDP Act and other applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we process it;
  • Correct, complete or update inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erase your personal data where it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected;
  • Withdraw consent you have given, at any time, without affecting processing already carried out;
  • Nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity; and
  • Raise a grievance with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if unresolved.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request, and we will respond within the timelines required by law.

Children’s data

This website and our services are intended for adults (18 years and over). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our product and the law evolve. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know. Please review it periodically.

Contact & Grievance Officer

If you have any question about this policy, want to exercise your rights, or wish to raise a concern, please reach out. We take grievances seriously and will do our best to resolve them quickly.
